Cheap and cheerful

If you go to vouchermate.co.nz, you can print a voucher for per night for two including breakfast - this is great value if you don't care what your room looks like. The rooms were clean and tidy, but very basic, and it's a bit of a hike through all those corridors to get to the budget rooms! Good place to stay if you're on a budget, or just passing through. Lots of parking and great location right in the middle of the city if you don't have a car, as most of the other hotels / motels seem to be on the road leading out of town.

Good Value

Stayed in a budget room for the first night. It was clean and tidy with only the basics. Had a renovated bathroom, fridge and TV and for it included breakfast. The second night my wife and I upgraded to one of the premium rooms - much more spacious and well worth the extra

Fine for the price

I stayed here in Feb 2009. I paid around NZ per night for a 'budget' room. The room was fine, pretty dated but then I expected that from the price compared to other motels in the area. The location is the reason I stayed here - it's right in the middle of town, just a few minutes walk from the Polynesian Spa etc.

I do agree with the other reviewers that the owners seem to be misselling this place though - 'Grand Hotel'?!! I would say it is a motel, not hotel, and Grand it certainly isn't. Better to call it and describe it as something more modest and then expectations will be more reasonable. Having said that, the cheap price should be a good indication of it's economy level.
